Corruption

A building owner is carrying out alterations without permission from Municipal authorities. He is issued a notice. He pays a bribe and the case is closed.
Would this scenario be different if the 'Permission' or 'Approval' could be obtained without hassles?

Corruption

We had to get the sewerage line cleaned. There is a pressure jet/suction machine with the sewerage board. You talk to them 'personally', negotiate a price and get the job done. When I asked the driver what was the amount to be paid, he said "You know, the usual". I couldn't refuse. The only relief is that the line is cleaned and we need not suffer from the bad smell.

Good news/ Bad news effect

An article in PNAS tells us about how we disregard negative information when making decisions.
Delusions are fixed false beliefs, which means only the negative aspects of a situation is usually highlighted.
In the study mentioned above, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation was used to disrupt the functioning of particular brain areas which prevented incorporation of negative information.
Does this give us a clue to how TMS may be helpful in certain psychiatric disorders?
